PHYSICS 335 ASTRONOMY

INTRODUCTION

This course is for sharing the joy of Astronomy with others. By the end of the semester, we will learn to nevigate the night sky in any season. of the year. We will learn the proper names of the major constellations and bright stars and try to identify them in the sky. We will learn about different constellations and their connection to the legends about them. We will identify classes of stars, their distance from us and how they are able to generate the incredible energy. Importantly, we will learn the methods of science and how it is possible to apply them to gather information about distant stars and heavenly bodies.

We will learn about the unusual properties of the stars including their origin, color, composition, distance, size, lifetime and source energy. We will make connections with the friendly stars as neibors. The twinkling stars are ever vigil in the clear night sky and eager to tell us their stories if we are ready to listen.

Let us go on a journey through the deep sky.
