Thumb update: slowly but surely healing. Pain fading. Urge to kill Snapper Turtle Girl same - but more slowly. I felt like the spirit was completely with me as I did the morning show today on WAIH. Every cue was perfect, every voiceover timed to the second before the singing began, and nary a word was mispronounced. Also, the mood of the songs fit together like a finely cut jigsaw puzzle, smoothly easing from genre to genre (Macy Gray, Sting and The Violent Femmes in perfect harmony). I don't know if I did anything in my sleep last night, or something got slipped into my morning coffee, but whatever happened, my show turned out great (in my opinion). Now if only people would quit abusing the equipment. Also, they might think of playing something good once in a while (and no, Kittie and Full Devil Jacket do not qualify as good). While I'm on the subject of radio, and therefore on my musical soapbox, I may as well add that the new single from The Cure is excellent. "Maybe Someday," is The Cure as The Cure should sound - nice and longing (awwww...Robert Smith is depressed again). I can't say I like the pop songs that The Cure has done (my favorite Cure song is "Sinking" - not to be listened to if you're considering suicide), so "Maybe Someday" was a nice treat for me. I can't wait until I get a chance to hear the entire new album when it comes out. I have another reason to be happy (or at the very least, less depressed): Hurley's. The club is opening up again for the spring semester. The fun kicks off this Friday with a techno rave DJed by one of WAIH's staff members (who also works at Hurley's). Since I quit my job in films (I traded film projection, for food service, and yet I'm happier for it), I'll have lots of weekends free for these events. Also, a techno rave gives me an excuse to "dress up." Fun! Fun! Fun! The opening of Hurley's also means the return of my weekly open mic coffeehouse ritual. I wonder of The Silent One will show up again every week the way she did last semester. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to playing live again. Hopefully I'll be headlining sometime mid-semester. I have something special planned for then. Also, I'm hoping that Goth #2 shows up to hear my songs. Hurley's is a place where things happen. I am looking forward to having things happening again. Bring on the soap opera!
