SUNY - Stowell Planetarium

SUNY Potsdam Interactive Map
(use the navigation bar at top of page to get to building & parking maps)

DESCRIPTION / DIRECTIONS: Entering at the archway door, you have a choice of routes: you can use the elevator at the far end of the first floor corridor (on the left before you descend some short stairs to exit the building); or use the stairs on the left after you enter to descend to the basement. (NOTE: If you enter the building using the doorway by greenhouse you can "skip" a half flight of stairs.) Having used the stairs, once in the basement, walk almost the full length of the building; at the end of the hall, exit left through the door marked above as Room 104 and "exit." The planitarium is through the door on the left. Enter first into a small entry room filled with planetary pictures/models/small telescope, etc. On the right you will see the door leading to the planetarium itself. (NOTE: If you arrive/enter late and the room is dark already, please allow yourself a little time for your eyes to adjust before making your way to a seat.)

PARKING: Park in lots #9, #7, or #6.

ACCESSIBILITY: There is an elevator at the end of the building nearest the Union.

RESTROOMS: Restrooms are located in the center section of the building, ground floor.

Lower entrance = greenhouse entrance;
upper entrance = main floor entrance

Using the greenhouse entrance, you will
avoid a set of stairs

First flight of stairs to basement (use the
greenhouse entrance to avoid these)

Second flight of stairs to the basement

ELEVATOR: If you walk to the end of the
first floor, you will find the elevator tucked
away on the higher landing (this view from the Union end)

ELVATOR: After you exit the elevator in
the basement, turn right, then left into the
main corrider and walk a few feet to the
"exit sign" (room104C)

HAVING TAKEN THE STAIRS TO THE
BASEMENT : Walk down the long corridor,
almost to the very end

Go as far as the blue exit door with
a red exit light over it (left side of
the hall near the end of the corridor)

There's a red "exit" sign over this
door and door is identified as room
104C. Open the exit door (it sticks!)
and look left

Enter the small anteroom (shown
above)
, look right, then enter the
planetarium itself
