Information
So who are we? Simply put we are a fraternity at the State University of New York at Potsdam made up of students from SUNY Potsdam and Clarkson University. In order to foster a meaningful brotherhood we uphold what we called the four pillars of Prometheus which are athletic, academic, social, and service all of which we attempt to maximize though the organization. Below are descriptions of said pillars.
Athletic
What’s a healthy mind without a healthy body to maintain it? We believe that in order for one to truly get the most out of life they must attempt to keep their body in good physical condition. To this end we hold athletics as one of our primary values. Thus we organize volleyball games, frisbee events (for example ultimate frisbee), football games, and other things to stay in shape and just as importantly to have fun.
Academic
Our number one goal while we are here in school is to get an education- as opposed to just socialize. Thus as a group we help each other with our academics and attempt to maintain certain academic standards. We as a rule maintain study hours during the pledge period and in addition can provide guidance when requested on how to maintain a proper academic routine. The way we see it is in order to maintain a brotherhood its important for said brothers to stay in school. In addition in Fall 2004 we achieved the highest overall fraternity GPA and award scolarships to especially sudious brothers and pledges.
Service
Prometheus participates in a large amount of service projects. Past projects include events such as dance marathons, blood drives, hobble gobble walk, volunteering at the Special Olympics, brother auctions, pie in the face, and adopt a highway. We look to help many different charities and organizations such as MDA, ADA , Hospice, and the American Red Cross. Our recent projects (Spring 2005) included two blood drives, a charity basketball playoff, fundraising for United Cerbral Palsy, and a car smash to benifit campus rescue.
Social
As Chef from south park once said there’s a time and a place for everything dammit and its called college! Prometheans don't spend all our time working - all work and no play makes dull people thus to this end we boast an active social program involving regular social gatherings with other local sororities. Come down chill college isn't all book smarts if you can't interact with your fellows what hope do you have of being a successful part of a working team? That’s our philosophy. Theres a reson most of congress and uppermangement is greek!
