PUZZLE #40 How long is the string? Oct.29-Nov.2

On the tube below there is a string which runs around the tube twice from top to bottom.

How long is the string, if the tube is 24in. in circumference and 36in. high?

Hint: If you are stuck, think about making the tube out of a sheet of paper which is 24in. by 36in.
