PUZZLE #91 A Few Quickies

1.    A train T leaves the station at S and chugs slowly eastward on a circular track of radius 1000 ft. with center at point C. At the same time a person leaves the station walking south towards C and keeping pace with the train on their left. On the radius CW perpendicular to SC is a sensor at point B halfway from point C to the circle. The sensor points due north. If the person is at point A just as the sensor records the train T passing, how far apart are the person and the sensor?

2.    As a student is driving her car home from college she notices that the odometer is at 25,952 miles, a palindrome (reads the same forward and backward).  A while later as she arrives home she sees that the odometer is at another palindrome. If there was no palindrome readings between the two readings what is the odometer reading when she gets home?

3.    If the triangle ABC below is isosceles (2 sides of equal length) with angles as indicated, name the size of all of the angles marked with a question mark ? and the angles marked with alpha.

4.    In the right triangle below, the base is 1 unit and the height is 2 units. The line BD is perpendicular to AC and the line DE is perpendicular to BC. Give the lengths of BE and DE (and also AD and DB for extra).
