Time
for MATH MINUTE! (provide your favorite theme music here).
Get
out your paper & pencil because I have a new puzzle for you!!
PUZZLE #23 More or less? Mar. 19
– Mar. 23
Take
a sheet of 8.5 by 11 inch typing paper and roll it into a cylinder so that the
ends meet exactly.
This
can be done in two ways, one way will have a height 8.5 inches and the other
will be of height 11 inches.
Does
one cylinder hold more than the other or do they hold the same volume (assuming
you put ends on them)?
Math note: In case you need it, recall the volume V of a cylinder is the area A of the base (a circle) times the height h of the cylinder, V = Ah.
