Youthful Drinking Declines
The nation-wide Pride Survey of drinking alcohol among young people in the U.S. has reported significant declines in the consumption of alcohol. Over 100,000 students are included in each Pride Survey, which is officially endorsed by federal legislation.
The annual survey reported declines among middle school students over the past year, past five years, and past ten years. Especially noteworthy in the 22% drop over the past six years among students in grades six to eight who reported drinking any alcohol during the previous year.
About two-thirds (65%) of middle school students reported that their parents had talked with them about alcohol during the previous year.
