Fewer Young People Drinking Alcohol at Early Age
The proportion of persons who had their first drink of alcoholic beverage before the age of 13 has shrunk in recent decades, according to research.
Dr. Vivian Faden of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) reviewed three large, nation-wide studies of underage drinking that involved tens of thousands of students in the US. The data extend from the 1970s through 2003. Her findings are published in the June, 2006 issue of Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research.
