College Freshmen Drinking Drops to Record Low
The proportion of freshmen entering American colleges and universities who report that they “frequently or occasionally” drink beer has dropped to an all-time historic low of 43%. In 1982, the proportion was 74%.
The findings are based on a survey of over one-quarter of a million (263,710) freshmen at 385 colleges and universities across the United States. It was the 40th annual such survey conducted by the Higher Education Research Institute at the University of California at Los Angeles.
