University President Charged with Alcohol Price-Fixing Conspiracy
Chancellor John Wiley of the University of Wisconsin (Madison) is among the defendants, including 25 bar owners, in a class action suit charging them with conspiring to inflate the prices of alcoholic beverages.
The university head is charged with pressuring bars to illegally raise their prices in order to reduce alcohol consumption among students.
Price-fixing is a violation of federal antitrust laws.
Interestingly, two-thirds of college undergraduates in the United States are of legal drinking age.
