Collegiate Alcohol Abuse Reduced
The effective social norms marketing technique is at the core of the alcohol policy implemented two years ago throughout the California State University system. Additionally, a major principle of the policy is to “support safe, legal, responsible, moderate consumption of alcohol for those who choose to drink rather than punishing responsible, legal behavior.”
Preliminary indications are than within a single year there has been a
- 10-15% drop in alcohol-related misconduct
- 20-25% drop in alcohol-related judicial cases
- 20-30% drop in DWI or DUI incidents.
Clearly, effective policies that are properly implemented can significantly reduce alcohol abuse on college campuses.
