Judge Jailed for Using Cough Medicine
A former county judge in California has been jailed for taking Nyquil, an over-the-counter medication, for a cold.
Judge William Danser, who was convicted for fixing traffic tickets, was required not to drink alcohol as a condition of his 90-day electronic monitoring.
The day that Danser took the medicine, a probation officer made a surprise visit. The judge’s wife said her husband had a cold and was in bed. She was then ordered to wake him up and have him provide a urine sample.
After the results showed a trace of alcohol, the judge was ordered to spend the rest of his sentence in jail.
