31st State Legalizes Sunday Liquor Sales
Ohio has become the 31st state in the US to abolish blue laws that prohibited the sale of liquor on Sundays. It becomes the ninth state within the past two years to abolish the Prohibition-era restrictions on commerce.
Advocates of reform argue that repeal of the prohibition expands consumer choice on the second-busiest shopping day of the week and benefits states by raising tax revenue.
Nineteen states have yet to abolish their blue laws, which were established in earlier eras of our history to enforce the religious beliefs and practices of some people on the entire population.
