Sunday Alcohol Sales
Voters in Edwardsville and Kansas City, Kansas, have voted to permit the sale of alcohol beverages on Sundays.
The cities contend that the states home-rule amendment to the constitution gives them that right. However, the state of Kansas argues that it doesn't and has taken the cities to court to prevent the Sunday sales of beverage alcohol.
Kansas is generally considered to be the birthplace of the temperance movement that led to National Prohibition in 1920. It was also in Kansas that Carrie Nation became famous for weilding her hatchet to destroy bars.
