Drink in Moderation for Good Health

by David J. Hanson, Ph. D.

After carefully examining the research evidence, a leading health expert reports that people should drink in moderation rather than abstain.

Dr. Paolo Boffetta, a cancer epidemiologist at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France, says that people should drink in moderation . He says that alcohol abstinence “cannot be recommended” from the perspective of public health.

On the other hand, heavy or abusive drinking has been linked to several cancers.

Note: Alcohol is generally contraindicated for pregnant women, alcoholics, and those whose physician recommends abstinence. If in doubt, consult your physician.
