Jail for Alcohol Possession
Young adults and others under the age of 21 could be jailed for 30 days for a second conviction of possession of alcohol. No consumption of alcohol would be necessary to be convicted and serve essentially a month in jail. This, under a proposed bill gaining steam in the Michigan legislature.
Although well-intentioned, incarcerating young people behind bars with criminals may be counter-productive. Critics also fear the law would lead to more jail overcrowding.
