DWI Courts Supported in Missouri

Special courts that address the root problem of repeat or felony drunken-driving offenders have been approved by the Missouri Senate. The supporting legislation moves to the House for consideration.

By dealing with the underlying addiction of repeat DWI offenders, DWI courts have proven to be much more effective than incarceration in reducing subsequent DWI offences.

In addition to being much more effective, DWI court programs cost much less than incarceration.

Judge William Price of the Missouri Supreme Court met with lawmakers to support its passage. He said that if offenders aren't treated for their addiction they will continue to drive while intoxicated, even after their licenses are revoked.
