Moves from MADD to The Century Council
Brandy Anderson, formerly Director of Public Policy at Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) has become Vice President for Government Relations at the Century Council.
The Century Council was established over ten years ago to fight drunken driving and underage drinking. It spends about one million dollars per month to reduce impaired driving and alcohol consumption by those under the age of 21. The Council is funded entirely by American distillers.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving sponsored the Century Council for an award, which it won, from the National Commission Against Drunk Driving for its effective work promoting tougher drunk driving laws.
Ms. Anderson said the Century Council is “a really impressive organization” and was the first in the traffic safety community to focus attention on the problem of hard core drunk drivers. Hard core drunk drivers are disproportionately involved in fatal traffic crashes but are highly resistant to changing their behavior in spite of fines, jail and other common law enforcement sanctions.
