I am a tenured professor of Sociology at the State University of New York, and received my Phd from Columbia University. The courses I teach include the following: Women and Work, Sociology of Work, Class Stratification, Race and the City, Contemporary Social Problems, as well as a Senior Seminar on Women, Work and Family.
This webpage concerns my current research focusing on gender bias in family law. More specifically, I am seeking to determine whether or not there is a pattern of bias against mothers in contemporary gender neutral family law. I have given numerous presentations on this work at both national and international conferences.
(I have additionally published a book and articles on subjects ranging from unionization in healthcare occupations to changes in contemporary Native American economies; for which I received both federal and local awards.)
In my previous lives I have been Academic Administrator, Affirmative Action Officer, Newspaper Photographer, as well as Clinical Electromyographic Technician. My personal interests include listening to NPR, travel, reading, skiing, skating, hiking, rollerblading and biking. These activities are most enjoyable when shared with my kids, friends, the dog, and when possible, my three brothers and their families who are scattered around the east coast.
