John Ellis
John Ellis, Professor of Trumpet and Chairman of
Graduate Studies at the Crane School of Music, State University of
New York at Potsdam, holds degrees from the University of Illinois,
Florida State University, and Arizona State University. He has
performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout the United
States, Canada and Europe, appearing with Summit Brass, the US Army
Brass Band, Eastern Chamber Brass, Studio de Musique Ancienne de
Montreal, the Calgary Philharmonic, Banff Opera Orchestra, the
Nouveau West Chamber Orchestra and the Illinois Opera Theater. He is
currently Principal Trumpet of the Orchestra of Northern New York,
Northern Symphonic Winds, and is a member of the Potsdam
Brass Quintet, faculty
quintet-in-residence at the Crane School of Music.
Prior to his appointment the Crane School in 1984,
Dr. Ellis taught at Florida State University, Arizona State
University and Valdosta State College in Georgia. He can be heard on
the recently relaeasd recording of the Potdam Brass Quintet,
La Rejouissance
as well as his solo recording, SoloPro
Contest Music for Trumpet, on the Summit
Records label.
