The Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority was founded on November 4th, 1899
at what is now Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan
and is the only National Sorority on SUNY Potsdam’s campus.
The sorority slowly began to grow as chapters were established
nation wide. Now with over 100 chapters throughout the country,
Alpha Sigma Tau continues their tradition in promoting the ethical,
cultural, and social development of its members. The local chapter
is the Gamma Epsilon chapter at the State University of New York
College at Potsdam. We take tremendous pride in continually repledging
ourselves to contribute our share to the progress of mankind. One
of the ways in which we do this is by loyally supporting our national
philanthropy, Pine Mountain Settlement School in Kentucky. Alpha
Sigma Tau also recently teamed up with Habitat For Humanity as
its national philanthropy. Locally known as “AST”,
its hard to miss a sister walking around campus as we proudly wear
our emerald green and gold colors. AST is a lacework of intellect,
heart, and spirit. We strive to help each member develop and unfold
her true potential as an individual and as a member of a national
network of diverse women.
