Nalmefene Appears to Reduce Alcohol Craving

A new drug, nalmefene, reduces the brain's perception that drinking alcohol is pleasurable.

Use of the medication is designed to reduce rather than prevent the consumption of alcohol.

If clinical trials in Europe are successful, the new pharmaceutical could become available there shortly thereafter.
