Drunk Driving Fatalities Drop Significantly to Historic Lows

Fatalities associated with intoxicated or drunken drivers dropped by 4.9 percent in 2010 compared to 2009. This decline was 40 percent greater than the drop in the overall trafic fatality rate.

This dramatic reduction in fatalities related to drunken driving means that there were 531 fewer such needless deaths in 2010 than in the year before. In addition, the number of drunken driving traffic deaths is down 41 percent in ten years.

Although the overall proportion of traffic fatalities associated with alcohol has dropped to its lowest level ever (31%), we must continue the fight against the crime of intoxicated driving.
