Drinking Alcohol and College Grade Point Average (GPA)

Heavy episodic drinking, sometimes called “binge” drinking, tends to be associated with lower academic grades among college students. However, most students consume in moderation and about one-fifth of college students abstain from alcohol entirely.

Research conducted at Sam Houston State University has found that drinking in moderation has virtually no effect on students’ grade point averages. The yearlong study sampled 14% of the student population of the University.
