Have Better Health & Longer Life

For most people, better health and longer life can be achieved by making simple lifestyle changes, according to “Proven steps to a longer life.” Here are some simple actions to take.

Avoid Tobacco. Smoking cigarettes causes at least 30% of all cancer deaths in the U.S. It’s never too late to enjoy the health benefits of quitting.

Drink Alcohol in Moderation. Consuming alcohol in moderation is associated with better health and greater longevity than is either abstaining or abusing alcohol.

Avoid Saturated Fats. People should get no more than 30% of their daily calories from fat.

Eat Lots of Fruits and Vegetables. Consuming many different kinds of fruits and vegetables is also wise because they may work better in combination.

Eat less Red and Processed Meat and More Poultry and Fish. Diets rich in red and processed meats are associated with much higher rates of cancer.

Exercise 30 to 60 Minutes a Day. Regular exercise, even at for shorter periods of time , helps improve health.

Visit a Doctor Regularly. This is important at any age but becomes even more important as we age.

Practice Safe Sex. Abstinence or monogamous sex with an uninfected partner and using condoms contributes to better health.

Avoid Too Much Exposure to the Sun. This is especially important for those under the age of 18.

Take a Multivitamin Tablet Each Day. Although some doubt its value, it’s good insurance and can do no harm.

Floss. The risk of a number of diseases can be reduced by regular brushing and flossing. It’s easy and those around you will appreciate it as well.
