Cardiovascular Deaths and Alcohol

A recently-completed ten-year study of men and women aged 60 and over has found that cardiovascular deaths were significantly reduced among moderate drinkers. More specifically, in the authors' words, "moderate alcohol intake in the elderly appears to be associated with longer survival in men 60-74 years and in all elderly women."
