Alcohol Ad Ban Has Little Effect Say Drinkers

A recent health survey finds that a ban on alcoholic beverage advertising in Thailand has had little effect on consumption.

A survey of 6,472 drinkers in ten provinces asked them whether the ban had or was likely to affect their drinking behaviors in any way. It found that the ban had not really helped change drinking behaviors, according to Dr. Jakkrit Phoomsawat, vice-president of the health foundation that conducted the study.

Dr. Phoomsawat said the ban on alcohol advertising had not been successful and that, therefore, a different approach is necessary.
