Ban Drinking on Private Property?

Santa Rosa police want the City Council in that California town to ban drinking alcoholic beverages on private property that’s accessible to the public or in vehicles on private property in view of the public.

The City Council in Healdsburg earlier rejected a similar proposal by the police. In doing so, it expressed concern about residents’ rights, equal enforcement, and restrictions on residents’ drinking on their own front lawns, condominium patios, or elsewhere on their private property.

Time will tell whether the Santa Rosa City Council sides with the police or with the residents and their basic property rights.
