Longer Pub Opening Stopped Binge Drinking

Extending drinking by one hour on Sundays has reduced alcohol-related problems on the island of Guernsey, according to “Longer Pub Opening has Stopped Binge Drinking.” Although some islanders had feared the change would increase problems, that has not occurred.

This is consistent with research in the US, which has found later bar closings associated with fewer alcohol-related problems.
