F I R S T F L O O R: Sitting Room and Dining Room
Facts & Figures: The Sitting and Dining Rooms stand to the left of the Center Hallway and run the entire length of the north side of the house. A single entrance into the Sitting Room and a single entrance into the Dinning Room are the only access points into the rooms from the hallway. Two doors, one to the Kitchen, the other to the Garden Room, are found at the east end of the Dinning Room. Another door, under the stairwell along the west wall, services the basement.
Separating the two rooms is a set of glass French Doors surrounded by side and transom lights. The design echoes the main house entrance, although of very different proportions. It is thought that these doors and lights were installed inside of the original opening between the two rooms in the early part of the 20th century (approximately, 1915-1940). Although found in both rooms, the base, door casings, and window moldings in the Sitting and Dining rooms are different from those found in the Center Hallway and Parlors. The paneled doors, however, are of the same design. The wainscoting in the Sitting Room is a late 20th century addition. "
Dimensions: The Sitting Room runs approximately 15 feet across the front of the house and 15 feet back along the north side. The Dinning Room runs approximately 21 feet across and 15 feet back.
